How does Dagens work?
Everybody
Everybody
Expand icon

Dagens is an online marketplace where farms and kitchens trade food directly on their own terms.

  1. Producers upload and price the products they want to sell
  2. Buyers order products available from the producers
  3. Producers harvest/produce, prepare and deliver the orders to the closest delivery hub
  4. Dagens collects produce from all hubs, cross-docks and prepare deliveries
  5. Buyers get all orders in one single delivery during preferred time slot– sometimes producers also deliver personally

Knowledge about food production on nature's terms is a key component in building the new food system. We provide transparent information so that buyers and producers can build trust and close relationships whilst trading.

What is Dagens' mission?
Everybody
Everybody

Dagens' mission is to make small scale and local food production economically viable. In addition to securing a future for family farms and other smaller farm operations, we aim to secure resilient production methods as the new norm. Producers with this important focus must be supported and validated through fair prices and increased market share. We believe a transparent and efficient system for direct trade is a fundamental need for these goals, and is why we built - and keep on developing - Dagens.

Industrialized food production and globalized markets dictated by huge corporations are destroying the health of our food systems and nature's ecosystems. Economies of scale and focus on standardized goods are depleting the world of biodiversity, threatening food security for us and other species. Small scale farming on nature's terms, with a great diversity of crops and species is an important solution, and we want to make this accessible to the market.

What are Dagens' expansion plans?

Our dream is for Dagens to be available everywhere, so that direct trade can be accessible and possible to everyone.
We started in Oslo in 2017, went to Copenhagen at the start of 2021 and are now expanding within Norway and Denmark. It's important for us to make sure that Dagens works well for all our partners - both producers and customers - in new areas in the countries we are present in, before taking on new markets. Further expansion in other European countries will be next on the list.

If you think we should start up somewhere specific, don't hesitate to let us know!

Can private consumers buy at Dagens?
Everybody
Everybody
Expand icon

No, not at this point. Dagens is for direct trade between officially registered businesses only.

Why not?

Because we see a real challenge in the professional kitchens: it's difficult for them to access local and resilient produce, and the systems that are presented to them are very rigid. As private consumers, we have more possibilities. This is one reason, and the other is that we want to do what we do really well - then we have to prioritize!

Do I have to sign a contract with Dagens?

We don't believe in exclusivity - we believe in freedom and responsibility. We also believe in community and close relations.

To be part of Dagens you have to agree to and sign our Terms and Conditions, but no other contract. Dagens is an order handling system for you to streamline your direct trades which allows you to sell and deliver to more customers with less effort. You still manage your own sales and customer relations. Our job is to make sure you can do that in the most effective and pleasing way.

Price and payment

How much do the producers get?
Everybody
Everybody
Expand icon

Producers get the vast majority of the price you pay – 80-95 % are wired straight to their bank account. That's the whole point of Dagens – properly rewarding producers for their important work! They price their own products. We kindly ask them to set fair prices that reflect their work and include our service fee. No surprises there!

Since your customers have their hands full of food most of the time, we've decided to handle the invoicing process for you. That way you get predictable payments, can spend more time producing food and less time chasing customers in order to get paid.

Every week, you will receive a financial settlement from us. The settlement includes all your orders, refunds to customers and charged service fees. Settlements have due date 21 days after date of creation, which means you will get paid in three weeks.
